My menopause exercise routine

Don’t count on exercise to lose much weight. It’s a losing battle.

Ok. Now I’ve got that out of the way….

I’m no gym junkie! I only started Pilates 18 months ago, then added yoga and weights because, wow—the results feel amazing.

And the yoga breathing? It’s like unlocking a whole new level of life! Oh, and dancing? Always a yes! Running…always a big fat NO.

But, I didn’t, and don’t, lose more than a pound or two, but… I feel toned and strong.

But it makes you feel and look sooo much better and toned.

The hardest part? Just getting started! Pilates once a week was how I started—very tough at first. 80 year olds in the class were doing roll ups while I was still trying to get off the ground . But by week three? Way easier!

And I was walking and moving a different way. It felt great!

Pilates strengthens your core. I wasn’t any lighter, but I sure felt like it—hello, flexibility! Next challenge? Ditching the elevator for stairs. I arrived breathless and gasping…but hey, progress!

Any little step is closer to my wellbeing and gives me more self confidence. Weights are essential when over 40 to see a big difference. (Bingo wings? No other way to deal with them.) Now I also go to other classes I never dreamt I would: fitsteps, body blitz, yoga, zumba… no cycling though thank you.

Some might prefer walking or running. I don’t. In short, I don’t use exercise to lose weight. I use it to tone, strengthen, flexibility and feel good and confident.
