Hi! I'm Izzy, and welcome to Slim at 50.

I'm 59 years old, a 1966 Fire Horse, and the mother of four angels! Not!

For more than 28 years, I've been on a mission to crack the code to staying healthy, energetic, and happy as a woman navigating midlife, menopause, weight gain, changing hormones, and the many health surprises that seem to arrive with age.

Along the way, I've dealt with insomnia that refused to leave, migraines that appeared out of nowhere, brain fog, stress overload, menopause symptoms, and the challenge of looking after both children and aging parents at the same time.

More recently, I’ve been navigating histamine intolerance, mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), Candida, food sensitivities, and hormone imbalance, while also exploring natural remedies and supplements that may help support these issues in midlife.

What makes Slim at 50 different is that this isn't just another health and wellness blog repeating advice from the internet.

This is my personal wellness journal.

I test diets, supplements, menopause solutions, natural remedies, health trends, and lifestyle changes on myself and share the results.

Sometimes the experiment is a success. Sometimes it isn't. Either way, you'll hear the truth. I believe there's just as much value in knowing what didn't work as there is in discovering what did.

Here you'll find honest reviews, personal experiences, wellness experiments, weight loss strategies, healthy aging tips, and practical insights based on real-life trial and error.

My goal is to help other women over 50 make more informed decisions about their health without wasting time, money, or energy chasing every new wellness fad.

Expect laughter, lessons, occasional frustrations, unexpected discoveries, and plenty of moments that begin with, "Well, that certainly didn't go as planned!"

I'm glad you're here. Let's figure this midlife health journey out together.

A woman with blonde hair smiling as she holds a baby goat with white fur and black markings on its face. Another person wearing glasses and a blue jacket stands nearby. They are outdoors on a cloudy day with a muddy path, wooden fences, and a parking lot with cars in the background.

My journey to a healthier, happier me started way back when I was 30, just after my first child. Let’s rewind a bit.

Teenage me battled epic acne. We’re talking countless trips to dermatologists who handed out the usual suspects: antibiotics, retinoids, Accutane, even the pill! It seemed better but…

then came pregnancy at 30, and because I stopped taking things to keep the symptoms away, my face turned into a full-blown war zone—boils under the skin, spots everywhere. Yikes.

That’s when I decided, “There has to be a better way.” So, I dived in headfirst, starting with homeopathy. And wow, what a mindset shift that was! I learned that suppressing symptoms is like sweeping dust under the rug.

The real magic happens when you heal the root cause!

Two years into homeopathic treatment, my skin finally started looking normal (cue happy dance!). But I wasn’t done yet—I was on a mission.

I sought out naturopaths, biochemists, anti-aging doctors—you name it. I wasn’t just their patient; I became their student! Some were even kind enough to hand me medical books to dive deeper into the science.

That was just the start…

I started to change things slowly. I didn’t have the routine I have today.

But if I was starting at my age now, I would rather make a more drastic change if I wanted to see a difference. It’s impossible to be happy if you feel rubbish. You don’t need to waste time with the mistakes I made…All that information is right here. 😉

Together in the journey.

Cheers!
